The Human Tendency to 'What-If?'

Have you ever pondered over the fact that we humans often find ourselves in two places? Either the Past or the Future. The 'Now' simply evades us and is already over by the time you read this sentence.

Well to be honest I'm not here to tell you if it's a good thing or a bad one. I'm rather here to ask you to own up to that pattern we all indulge in. I'm here to tell you that I'm not oblivious to this thought pattern and if I really observe my thoughts, I see a flicker of these all throughout. Whether it is a simulation of what my current decisions will lead to a year from now or how I could change my present by going back in the past and altering a few decisions. So what if, for a change, instead of running away from this pattern of thinking, we embrace it fully?

I hope I had a reason to tell you why we always distance ourselves from the present. Sorry, but I'm not the wise old man that I'd like to pretend to be. From whatever little I've learnt by stealing and borrowing thoughts and ideas from books and people I've met, I can only say that distancing yourself from this pattern causes more harm than good. If this is the inherent tide that everybody fights against, maybe embrace is the only thing you can do differently to not lose.

There's a reason why 'bullies' exist for most people in their childhood, but adulthood sees less of that. One of the reasons is that we become our own 'bully' and you might want to take a moment to reflect that. There's a good chance that out of all the people in your life, you'll realize that you've been the hardest on yourself. Sure we project our anxieties on others, but what we're really doing is creating a hypothetical where we pretend someone else has a problem with us when in reality we 'think' they have a problem with us. A big difference between them saying it's vs we thinking they think that way.

Which is why on this episode of the pod we attempted to liberate ourselves by actually having a full-blown conversation about how my friend Divergence (Dude with no name's alias for the pod) & I would change things if we could go back ten years. Some super cool revelations came out during the pod and we had our laugh-y and cry-y moments where we let it all out. To summarise it all we can only say one thing- Each decision we take opens up a thousand doors and shuts a thousand more. This only makes each decision we take, all the more important. While it's impossible to fathom the outcome of a decision, it is important to take as much time as you need before you choose. It is also important to not make a decision because everyone else was making it because no one else's actions should decide the course of your life. If you don't respect that, no one else will.

Phew. So much more to say, but I guess I'll let the pod do the rest of the talking :)

I hope to see you there, a cozy space of non-judgment which is exactly what we could all use rn (I need that for sure).

This is Zee signing off :)
